"Eddie Would Go" honors legendary Hawaiian lifeguard and big-wave surfer Eddie Aikau, who was famous for paddling out in conditions no one else would attempt at Oahu's Waimea Bay, saving over 500 lives during his years as a lifeguard there. The phrase became a rallying cry among Hawaiian surfers, capturing his fearless, go-anyway spirit in the face of danger. The Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational ("The Eddie") is named in his honor.
